Surrounding Areas

Ashley Moor self catering cottages are well placed for you to enjoy the local National Trust properties. A short walk from the farm and you are on Bircher Common which is managed by the National Trust and affords superb views of the local countryside. A walk across Bircher Common brings you to Croft Castle, also managed by the National Trust, which has beautiful trails through Fishpool Valley and is also the site of an ancient Roman Fort. On Bircher Common you may also join the Mortimer Trail with over 3500 miles of rights of way under foot it is ideal for walking and cycling. This whole area is also wonderful horse riding country with miles of bridleways away from any main roads. For those of you who want to bring your own horses we can provide stabling at the farm for up to 6 horse at any time at a small extra cost.

We are situated between the market towns of Ludlow (5.5 miles) and Leominster (5.5 miles). We are also within easy reach of the City of Hereford (21 miles)

Ludlow:

This pretty town is often quoted as a perfect example of a working medieval market town. Its famous for its Gourmet Dining and Michelin starred Restaurants. Every year there are two main festivals; The Ludlow Festival is held annually during the last week of June and first week of July. There are a wide range of arts events with the main attraction being an open air production of a Shakespeare play held in the grounds of Ludlow Castle. The Ludlow Food and Drink festival is held in the 2nd weekend of September and is the largest food fair held in the UK attracting 20,000 visitors in and around the grounds of Ludlow Castle. There are a number of smaller events happening in the town throughout the year. Ludlow has a racecourse with national hunt racing held several times a year. There is a railway station in the town with connections to Shrewsbury with easy access to Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly.

Leominster:

This quiet town is a magnet for antique collectors and has a selection of independent shops on its medieval streets. The town dates back to the 6th. Century and it's beautiful Priory Church was started in 633. The town also has its own Arts festival held in June and many events through the year. The railway station is situated about 5 minutes walk from the town centre and has connections to Hereford with easy access to London Paddington and Birmingham New Street.

Hereford:

The lovely City of Hereford has a beautiful Cathedral with a unique historical document from medieval times, The Mappa Mundi, and a fascinating Chained Library. There are a range of shops, restaurants and an Arts Centre as well as the Hereford Racecourse where national hunt racing meetings are held. There are many events held in and around the city throughout the year including The Three Choirs Festival.

We are within easy reach of a number of other interesting destinations such as the beautiful Black and White Villages of Herefordshire, the famous book town of Hay on Wye with it's internationally famous Arts Festival and the historic spa town of Malvern the venue for the R.H.S. Gardening events in Spring and Autumn. There are a wide range of local pubs, restaurants and cafes if you prefer to eat out, many serving locally produced produce.
